Kenny Rogers is one of true "done it all" stars, all the hits we know and love, the historic albums, just about every possible award he has won, and there's the acting..on tv and in the movies. So why would such an accomplished entertainer need anything new, why not rest of those laurels so to speak? Thankfully the artist in Kenny Rogers still needs to express himself and with "You Can't Make Old Friends" Kenny does what he has done through all these years...make Kenny Roger's music.
The first cut, the title cut, is a beautiful duet with long time recording and performing partner Dolly Parton..only those two could take such a personal sentiment and make it so touching and inspiring. My personal favorite cut on this fine album is "You Had To Be There"..it's a story that has been told many times in country music, Dad does wrong and is not there for his son. Think "Boy Named Sue" or Red Sovine's "Gitty Up Go", but in Kenny's telling the ending is not the ending you might expect or even hope for.....it is real, very real! Other highlights...two highly inspiring songs, 'Merica and Turn This World Around..make this album one any fan should add to their collection.
This is Kenny Roger's music, the great voice, wonderful songs, easy on the ear production. As I mentioned earlier, Kenny Rogers the Artist still has a need to express himself and anyone that listens to this album is going to take great satifaction in "You Can't Make Old Friends".
