Roger grew up on a Quarter Horse and Produce Farm in Ashtabula, Ohio (North East Corner) where his childhood classmates would cheer for summer vacation while he would whimper knowing his father would put him to work all summer long. So to avoid a life full of heavy lifting Roger decidied to start his career in Country Radio.
Along with his career, Roger is married a wonderful woman named Ruby, who still loves him through all his country boy "issues". When they married they combined their two families to make a home full of six kids, Zachary, Kleora, Heather, Jeremiah, Brandon and Christian.
When you don't hear Roger on 99.9 Kiss Country you'll find him playing out in the backyard with his kids as they are all very active in sports, so much so his youngest son sleeps with a baseball bat instead of a teddy bear.

It’s football season! My 9-year-old son Brandon has been hitting conditioning hard and is excited about playing again this year. He is one of the biggest boys on the team, daddy is proud….I fed him right, so he is going to be a nose guard again this year.
Last year was a little tough on him because it was his first time out on the field and he wasn’t sure how to take a hit. So the coach would let him ride the bench if he didn’t perform. So his mother would nurse his busted up ego and tell him he’d be “ok” and not to worry, but as a dad….I couldn’t have that. This is FOOTBALL. There’s no nursing your ego because your afraid to take a hit…we just have to find a way to get you mad out there and not afraid.
So I used what I knew would inspire him, his older teenage sister who constantly picks on him. I sat him down in the backyard last year and the conversation went like this…
“You know how your sister constantly picks on you… and I say, ‘You’re not allowed to hit your sister’?” I asked him.
“Yeah…she really makes me mad. I’d like to just knock her down when she runs her mouth” he replied.
“But she’s bigger than you and she could hurt ya…aren’t you afraid of that?” I continued.
“Heck no….whatever she could dish out would be worth seeing her on her butt.” He smiled.
“Then think of the guy your facing off with as your sister with her smart mouth making fun of you and hit that guy with that type of emotion…don’t kill him….but just knock him on his tail.” I suggested.
“Ohhhhhhhhhhh……yeah” Brandon grinned.
So this year he told me…I’m taking down that smart mouth dad….which in this case is a good thing. Plus it may help relieve some of the stress at home.
